Anahata Chakra is where we cultivate feelings of compassion towards others. It’s also where we hold feelings towards those who have hurt us, whom we continue to carry in our hearts until we are ready to forgive them.

The practice of devotional backbends opens up the heart chakra and helps to release those emotions and heal feelings of hurt from our past so we can move into the future with grace understanding and unconditional love.

On a physical level backbends stimulate the central nervous system, boost immune system, realign and increase mobility in the spinal column, open the hips, strengthen and stretch the legs. Other benefits include increasing the flow of blood, massaging the vital organs and glands as well as loosening the joints. Backbends boost energy levels and relieve tensions stored in the muscles.

Many of us find back-bends challenging both physically and mentally. In this workshop we will explore the balance between the effort and grace in back-bending and setting our intentions to resolve anything that needs freeing in order to expand and evolve from our hearts.

The activities and stresses of our daily lives can often lead to tightness and discomfort in our hips, knees and lower backs. Releasing this tension is crucial for our overall health. In this deep hip exploration workshop, you will learn to step out of the unconscious need to jam your body somewhere and find instead a sensible, sensitive and compassionate approach to hip opening postures. With a mindful approach to hip opening, we can release stress and negative emotional memories, which may be stored in the hips on an energetic level.
